About

Intro

Welcome, for those of you who don't know me my name is Evagoras, I am a photographer from Enfield, London, England.

I have been photographing professionally since 2003 and it is obvious that I inherited my passion for photography through my father, Yiangos, who like me, could never put his camera down.

History

Since before I was born my family's life was overwhelmingly documented by my ancestors who would constantly cradle a camera in their hands.

My maternal Grandmother, Mary (my mum's mum) has pictures of my mother, Magda from when she was newborn and even pictures from 1936 believed to be my great grandmother in Cairo, Egypt.

As a child I would always admire my fathers passion for photography. His camera collection (to this day) would have any enthusiast in awe. His desire for the art went to the extreme where he even built his own darkroom in our loft where he would process his own film.

His creative skills still continue to this very day as he practices the art of Iconography.

As a child (and to this day) I would always scour through our collection of photographs, whether they'd be meticulously organised albums or individually placed in and strut mounts and envelopes.

The Archives

When my parents retired to the motherland (Cyprus), I inherited my family's entire photo collection which I have now started to scan and digitally archive.

The reason for this is two fold.

  1. Many of the photographs have already started to deteriorate and loose their colouring to the point where I can’t even restore them using my photo editing skills. So, before they fade completely the scanning started.

  2. 90% of these images will mean nothing to our future generations unless they are categorised and tagged (like we do on social media) with the people that are in them. I barely recognise a few faces... there is no way our kids will ever do so.

The Concept

Due to the unprecedented amount of images I have acquired, I thought the best way to catalog these images would be to create a web gallery where my entire family could view them in easy to search galleries.

I have started by categorising them into family surnames and in the near future will hopefully have them in chronological order too.

To my family members

I hope these photos bring back many memories of our past, there are many many photos to go through.

Please feel free to comment and submit your feedback on images as there some are people I do not recognise. Your input will help build a more informative catalog.

Our Family Tree

Within each profile in the galleries there is a bio and link to person's individual family tree. If you're not already a member sign up to ancestry.co.uk to view.

Your feedback here is also greatly appreciated. If i've missed any important members or person's info please contact me and I will happily update.

Info can include:

  • Spellings of names
  • Date of birth/deaths
  • Place of birth/deaths
  • Historical moments
    • Marriage
    • Divorce
    • Christenings
    • Education

This will also help build an amazing historical database for future generations.

Please visit regularly as there are many more to come.
